Exercise in the elderly age

Physical activity must be a priority to all of us regardless the age we have, but when we begin to enter the golden years, the forties or fifties, we must give it much more importance; since by nature from this age we begin to lose physical ability and if you do not exercise, we lose muscle capacity and become more vulnerable to disease, especially cardiac and broken bones from falling.

Is advisable that if you are at that age, before you start exercising you go to the doctor and discuss your idea, we are sure he will do a complete physical exam.

Is worth noting that you should start with a gentle nonviolent exercise plan so you will not suffer any accident. If you go to a gym ask for a trainer to help you design your routine.

These are some of the benefits of exercising:

  • Increased muscle mass and better coordination of walking movements
  • Less incidence of falls and broken bones
  • Prevention and late onset of osteoporosis
  • Decreases depression events
  • Helps preventing atherosclerosis
  • Significantly improves blood pressure
  • Reduce excess weight and improve your physical condition
  • Get a better night of sleep and creates a sense of well being

Stay healthy and in a good mood while doing some exercise every day. Biking, swimming, walking, gardening are some of the most recommended activities for you. Always talk to your doctor before you start exercising.
