Why do I frequently get sick?

Once we catch a virus, our immune system weakens while fighting it. After the virus, we should be careful not to catch another one because we no longer have defenses. We need to recover these defenses, and this is why we tend to catch infection after infection: our immune systems are not able to recuperate.

What make us frequently get sick?

  • Eating fried foods, saturated fats, sugary drinks (sodas or canned juices with added sugar such as sucrose, fructose, diet sugar, etc.), cow’s milk and derivatives, excess salt or refined products like flours.
  • Eating excessively spicy foods.
  • Overeating meat and drinking drinks that provoke irritation, causing disequilibrium in the body.
  • Consuming bad combinations of foods, eating a lot in one meal, drinking sugary drinks with meals, constantly eating, etc.
  • Excessively using or misusing medicine.
  • Having a lack of physical activity or sufficient blood circulation.
  • Breathing contaminated air.
  • Having stress, worry, or anger, provoking a series of internal reactions that impede effective assimilation of nutrients and their efficient evacuation.
  • Not getting adequate rest.

How you can help your immune system recover as soon as possible and be able to stay healthy longer:

  • Vaccinate yourself against viruses, such as the flu, chicken pox, rubella, measles, tuberculosis, etc.
  • Eat foods that will provide all the nutrients that your body needs, as indicated in the food pyramid.
  • Sleep well for about eight hours daily.
  • Drink plenty of water, paying attention to the amount that your body needs according to your weight and your physical activities.
  • Speak to your doctor about which vitamin supplements to take based on the results of your lab work.
  • Consume vitamin C for a week or two after overcoming an illness.
  • Start an exercise routine. Start slowly, developing strength and fortitude in your immune system. Exercise gives you different benefits, such as improving your sleep, relieving stress, and helping your blood pressure and digestion.

This way, your immune system recovers, and your body can fight other viruses, thus preventing you from getting sick as often.
